nine mans morris large strategy box

Nine Men's Morris is a strategy board game for two players that emerged from the Roman Empire. Known as "cowboy checkers" 9 man's Morris was once printed on the back of most checker boards. A very strategic game for two players. Initially the board is empty. On his turn a player places a peg into an empty space with the eventual goal of making 3 in a row. Once all pegs are on the board, players take turns moving a peg of their color to an unoccupied space. Every time a player makes 3 in a row vertically or horizontally they remove one of their opponent's pieces from the board. Once a player has only 3 pieces remaining they may jump over their opponent's pieces to an empty space as a valid move. The game is over when one player has fewer than 3 pieces on the board.
